Sunderland have made ambitious moves for two Premier League strikers as the Black Cats ramp up their efforts to land additional firepower ahead of the season starting a week on Saturday.
Watford's Jerome Sinclair is supposedly on Wearside to complete a season-long loan move to the Stadium of Light. Roker Report claim the ex-Liverpool striker could be unveiled later on today.
But word is, the Black Cats have launched an even more audacious effort to bring in a touch of quality up top and have made an enquiry for Brighton's Sam Baldock.
Baldock has been linked with a summer move to Reading. The 29-year-old looks surplus to requirements at Brighton as Chris Hughton's side prepare for a second season in the top flight. The former West Ham and Bristol City forward only managed two appearances for the Seagulls last term.
A graduate of the MK Dons academy, Baldock has experience at League One level, with over 50 goals in the third tier during his spells with the Dons and Bristol City.
Reports have suggested he would be available for around £1m. Supposedly Sunderland are waiting to hear back on whether Baldock would be willing to drop down to League One in order to lead the Black Cats hoped-for promotion charge back to the Championship.
Fans have begun to get a little twitchy in the last week or so over Sunderland's frustrations in the transfer market, but it seems like things are starting to fall into place and this week could be a big one in terms of arrivals.
