WORLD CUP PREDICTIONS: Expert predictions right here ladies and gents

It's World Cup Eve and we're all pretty excited to think about football that doesn't involve Sunderland for a little bit.

A few of the WAW team have stuck our necks out to call the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Here's our predictions;

Winners - Spain
Some international giants look to have soft underbellies this World Cup, but not Spain – who I see going the distance. Their only flaw is limited striker options, but having won trophies with a 4-6-0, I wouldn't worry.

Golden Boot - Belgium
Romelu Lukaku can't stop scoring in a Belgian shirt. Six goals should win the Golden Boot, and with all the chances De Bruyne will carve out for him, he'll get halfway there from the group stages.

Golden Ball - Andres Iniesta
It's his last tournament. He's outstanding. If Andres Iniesta shows up, FIFA will take note. The romantic in me says he's going out with a bang.

Winners - Brazil
Got the best squad in the tournament and will be determined to make up for what happened at the last World Cup.

Golden Boot - Romelu Lukaku
Perhaps an outside choice but I have faith. Goals against Panama and Tunisia will set him up well for a fruitful tournament.

Golden Ball - Jordan Pickford
A goalkeeper to win the Golden Ball for the first time since the great Oliver Kahn in 2002 and a transfer to Bayern Munich to follow.

Winners - France
This tournament could well be set up for a surprise winner such as Belgium or, dare I say it, England. It doesn't feel like there is an 'elite' couple of squads that will dominate as has been the case in recent competitions. I'm going for France, because they have the most diverse squad.

Golden Boot - Neymar
Brazil have it pretty easy in the group stages and it would be no surprise if they scored quite a few in qualifying for the round of 16. Not many players have as good a goalscoring record for their respective countries as Neymar, and you'd expect Brazil to still be in Russia come the latter stages of the tournament.

Golden Ball - Paul Pogba
Probably not a popular choice for this but it made sense to pick a player from the nation I'm backing. I think Pogba suits France better than he does Man Utd in a midfield anchored by the impressive N'golo Kante and Blaise Matuidi.

Think we're all wrong? You're probably right.
